A minivan involved in a fatal collision that claimed the life of a pedestrian in Erin Mills Tuesday morning made an unsafe left turn that caused the crash, according to an eyewitness.
$ e, n: @+ R" d$ n1 LGlenys Gunn, 64, of Mississauga, was driving westbound on Eglinton Ave. around 11:30 a.m. when she saw the maroon minivan turn left from eastbound Eglinton to northbound Erin Mills Pkwy., straight into the path of a silver Honda Civic going westbound on Eglinton Ave.
/ B O- y% ~+ ~) l4 H"The silver car had the green light, so it seems as though the (minivan) was at fault," she said. "The minivan basically went right into the driver's side and the (Civic) just shot up in the air and did almost a double flip and landed on its roof."
% w0 U! B) X* [% i+ `The collision caused the Civic to become airborne and strike 42-year-old Alison Weeks, a pedestrian who was crossing at the intersection.
, ^& k) Z. g4 v c* w* J% cWeeks later died in hospital.
: U8 ~0 V, o- @7 w/ P( Z, S0 UNeither the 65-year-old Milton woman driving the van, nor the 52-year-old Mississauga woman driving the Civic, were injured, police said.
8 D7 W; g. _% d! I1 G) x" rGunn conceded the silver Honda was speeding and driving aggressively prior to the crash, but added it went through the intersection on a green light., P* a+ E! v3 E' h1 h
Peel Regional Police Cst. Erin Cooper said Major Collision Bureau investigators have interviewed witnesses, but it's too early to determine who will be charged.( \! r5 g6 T& ~% z1 m; V Q8 T
